Mood swings from viagra

Do you feel tetchy?

Have you no patience?

Are you biting at everything?

DONT WORRY!

Viagra is fantastic for me, I get a great night of sex, my wife is happy and we are all satisfied.....until the following day!

I'm Grouchy with little patience and the kids are winding me up...is it me or the medicine?

I have taken viagra for a decade now and I know how it affects me. I know that I will feel down and under pressure the next day but I can deal with it. Part of the pressure is down to fatigue and tiredness but the medicine definitely causes the fuse to shorten.

I manage this mainly through caffeine. Coffee or caffeine supplements allow me to feel more alert and feel ready to take on the world and this works half way the ought the next day!

I think you will notice this effect the more you use viagra and the more you take notice of how it affects your body and mind. As long as you know and can manage the grouchimess it's worth it!!

If you have your own ways to deal with this viagra side affect or this method works for you let us know in the comments. We are all in this together!

The Viagra/Sildenafil Headache : what to do

Picture the scene:

Tonight's your lucky night. The mood is great, you are both turned on and the sex is fantastic after your Sildenafil tablet taken earlier has relieved you from Erectile Dysfunction.

As you enjoy the moment and close your eyes ready to drift off to sleep in a stress free mood and happy, do you know what awaits you in the morning?

The Sildenafil Headache!!

Viagra and it's key ingredient Sildenafil does a fantastic job in helping your erection but one of it most common side effects is a headache.

I suffer almost every time with a headache when I take viagra. Whether it's 50mg, 100mg or 200mg the side effect of the headache is apparent but not in proportion, however I think reducing your dosage may help you.

Drinking alcohol whilst taking viagra seems to cause a worse headache for me. The combination of the medication headache and alcohol headache make it worse for me. However, keep reading to find out how I deal with the headache which makes this medicine worth taking!

How I deal with a Viagra Headache?

When I take Viagra/Sildenafil I make sure I drink a glass of water before sleeping to avoid dehydration worsening the headache.

Also, I take 2 Ibuprofen 200mg before sleeping to redice any swelling that could result in an headache.

Lastly, when I wake up I take 2 paracetamol 500mg to minimise the headache and again a glass of water for hydration.

* Ibuprofen and Paracetamol are my own methods of treatment please speak to your doctor before consuming *

The Erection is worth the headache!!

Let's just minimise it.

Hope this helps, let me know in the comments how you get on.

The Erectile Dysfunction Stress Induced Cycle

The Erectile Dysfunction Stress Induced Cycle starts like this:

1. Erectile Dysfunction occurs during sexual activity
2. The negative experience leads to questions about WHY it as happened?

(a) Because you have done something to impair yourself eg excess drink or drugs
Answer: personally control consumption below excess next time

(b) You have Erectile Dysfunction
Answer: nothing will change next time

(c) You have suffered from stress or anxiety, affecting the process of getting or maintaining an erection
Answer: these 3 things may happen next time:

1. You are in a better frame of mind or more comfortable environment and everything works . Great!!

2. You may get an erection, but start thinking about the negative past experience and cannot maintain your erection. The more you think about it the less success you have. Typical symptoms of stress induced Erectile Dysfunction.

3. You cannot get an erection to start with and the more you try the less success you have, again stress induced Erectile Dysfunction could be the reason.

What I find is that it all starts from the negative experience that embeds in your mind of that time when you could not perform. If you do not feel the erection early the next time you engage in sexual activity it is highly likely that you will think "is he going to work" . Therefore,  you need to do something different from last time to stop your mind reverting to the negativity.

Here are 5 things you could try to do to create a different sexual environment to overcome your impotence caused by stress and anxiety:

1. Only have foreplay and other aspects of sex other than intercourse

2. Have sex in a different place, such as a different room or at a hotel

3. Single people, if you are with a different partner you will create a different environment so be positive

4. Do not feel pushed into a sexual encounter after working a 12 hour shift for example,  because you will not feel sexy and you will not have the energy, which adds to the stress

5. Try to relax, a nice glass of wine can help you relax enough to feel sexy and regain some self confidence.

For help with stress induced erectile dysfunction I recommend you see your doctor or consult online doctors such as Dr Fox (UK and EU).

I hope you can all find success and overcome stress induced erectile dysfunction with the tips in this blog post.

Living with Erectile Dysfunction

Erectile Dysfunction affects more people than you think, not just the men!

The strain on ones relationships with girlfriends, boyfriends, husbands and wives is both physiologically and psychologically demanding.  The mental distraction from work and the inhospitable environment at home can affect your home life, including your children, and the constant thinking of "will he work next time" will wear you down.

I have lived with ED for over a decade, from my hormone fuelled teens until now, a dad in his thirties. I have ridden the roller coaster of " ups and downs " more times than I can remember but I survived, and now I have a family life with children.

I know the barriers to relationships erectile dysfunction causes, I've seen the chaos caused by not "rising to the occasion" and I want you to know that this erectile dysfunction you are experiencing is manageable and there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Living with ED blog is for everyone experiencing erectile dysfunction in their life, whether you cannot get or maintain an erection, or whether it is your other half not performing as he should be.

Amongst all the medical jargon and Viagra scammers online I have found it difficult to find the honest truth about living with erectile dysfunction. "Living with ED" is all about breaking down the jargon so you can understand the symptoms, side effects, risks, rewards and consequences associated with erectile dysfunction.

I will give you information on medical treatments for erectile dysfunction, managing the side effects, the pros and cons, how you can seek help for erectile dysfunction, discuss the subject with partners and how to keep living life!

Medication for Erectile Dysfunction Overview

There are various medical treatments for erectile dysfunction that are prescribed by doctors and online doctors following a questionnaire regarding your individual circumstances and health. This initial screening of your health is extremely important because not everyone is suitable to take the medication prescribed for erectile dysfunction.

Some of the reasons why you may not be prescribed medication for impotence include:
  • You already take nitrate-based medicine
  • Low blood pressure
  • Retinitis pigmentosa
  • Recent myocardial infarction
  • Angina
  • HIVprotease inhibitors
Please be aware that there are other ways of treating erectile dysfunction even if you are not suitable for medication treatment. I will cover these options in a different blog because I feel it is a specific topic of interest that needs greater detail.

What medication can be used to treat erectile dysfunction?

The main named brands used to treat erectile dysfunction are:

Viagra, Cialis and Levitra and this is how they look in genuine packaging:

Each brand produces different strength tablets that work in slightly different ways. However, each works towards the same goal of providing you with the ability to get and maintain an erection.

What Viagra, Cialis and Levitra don't do is increase your libido, and they require you to be sexually stimulated before you start to see the effects of the treatment working.

In 2013 Pfizer, the company behind Viagra, had its patent expire to allow for other companies to produce "generic viagra". Generic Viagra contains the the active drug Sildenafil and works in the same ways. I have included this in the comparison table below.

The table explains the overview of differences between Viagra/Sildenafil, Cialis and Levitra

Do I have erectile dysfunction?

Do I have erectile dysfunction? Probably, the first time you ask yourself this is immediately after you have been unable to sexually perform. You will also have your partner asking you the same question, but also with the added comment "is it because of me?"

This really fuels the fire, as both of you are in a state of anxiety because your sexual activity did not meet your expectations. This is dangerous grounds as it plants the seed for long term self confidence loss.

To answer the question, you need to understand the question. What really is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction, also known as impotence, is the inability to get an erection or unable to maintain an erection to perform sex.

So, how do you get an erection?

An erection results from increased blood flow into the penis. This occurs due to sexual stimulation causing a relaxation of muscles in the penis. The increase in blood flow through the arteries fills cavities in the penis, known as corpus cavernosum, and this puts pressure on the veins restricting blood flow out of the penis. This results in more blood flowing in than out, filling the penis and making it hard.

That is the process for an erection due to sexual stimulation, but this process can be broken or interrupted due to physiological and psychological reasons:

Physiological reasons include health, disease, use of alcohol and drugs.
Psychological reasons include anxiety, stress, depression and mental health.

You must be aware that the physiological and psychological reasons for erectile dysfunction can occur as a combination of factors, so you may not be able to point out one exact reason for your impotence at that moment.

Age is not a physiological reason in itself as erectile dysfunction can occur in men of any age, although more prevalent in middle aged men.

Also, these reasons vary over a spectrum of time. For example, excess alcohol or drug abuse could be a short term effect of erectile dysfunction, that is also known as "brewers droop". However, chronic stress and anxiety that happens over months or years may have a significant psychological impact on your ability to get an erection.

This takes us back to the question in the first paragraph, do I have erectile dysfunction?

As you can see there are different reasons why you have not been able to perform. In your  circumstance you may now be able to understand why it has happened. Too much alcohol for instance is something you can change next time and you may not require medical intervention. However, longer term erectile dysfunction where you have not been able to perform on numerous occasions may indicate a greater underlying problem, such as stress, anxiety or health problems.

Seeking medical advice is recommended, either from your doctor or online doctor from a reputable company.
