The Erectile Dysfunction Stress Induced Cycle

The Erectile Dysfunction Stress Induced Cycle starts like this:

1. Erectile Dysfunction occurs during sexual activity
2. The negative experience leads to questions about WHY it as happened?

(a) Because you have done something to impair yourself eg excess drink or drugs
Answer: personally control consumption below excess next time

(b) You have Erectile Dysfunction 
Answer: nothing will change next time

(c) You have suffered from stress or anxiety, affecting the process of getting or maintaining an erection 
Answer: these 3 things may happen next time:

1. You are in a better frame of mind or more comfortable environment and everything works . Great!!

2. You may get an erection, but start thinking about the negative past experience and cannot maintain your erection. The more you think about it the less success you have. Typical symptoms of stress induced Erectile Dysfunction.

3. You cannot get an erection to start with and the more you try the less success you have, again stress induced Erectile Dysfunction could be the reason.


What I find is that it all starts from the negative experience that embeds in your mind of that time when you could not perform. If you do not feel the erection early the next time you engage in sexual activity it is highly likely that you will think "is he going to work" . Therefore,  you need to do something different from last time to stop your mind reverting to the negativity. 

Here are 5 things you could try to do to create a different sexual environment to overcome your impotence caused by stress and anxiety:

1. Only have foreplay and other aspects of sex other than intercourse

2. Have sex in a different place, such as a different room or at a hotel 

3. Single people, if you are with a different partner you will create a different environment so be positive 

4. Do not feel pushed into a sexual encounter after working a 12 hour shift for example,  because you will not feel sexy and you will not have the energy, which adds to the stress

5. Try to relax, a nice glass of wine can help you relax enough to feel sexy and regain some self confidence.
